Alpine Dam Loop offers one of the most scenic rides in all of Marin. Meandering your way through some of Marin County’s most quaint towns (Larkspur, Kentfield, Ross, etc), on your way to some of the most fantastic climbs and epic scenery in southern Marin, the treasures and rewards of this ride are second to none. Riding this loop in a counter clockwise fashion will provide for a ride filled with majestic views, great climbs & descents, and most importantly a safe finish down Highway 1. We do not recommend riding up Route 1 for any of our rides.
Directions
Beginning at Studio Velo and head north on Miller Ave. At the light make a right onto Camino Alto and head straight over Camino Alto Grade. Descend down and continue through the towns of Corte Madera, San Anselmo and Fairfax. As you enter into Fairfax, once downtown make a left onto Bolinas Fairfax Road. Now stay the course and begin to wind your way up, past the golf course and summit out before beginning a rollercoaster descent into Alpine Dam. When you reach the dam this is a great spot to eat a nutritional and have a swig of water. Continue on over the dam and up into the redwoods. When you reach a fork in the road bear to the left and through the gate into the Mt Tam area. Now begins the final climb of the day up the Sisters to Rock Springs. Enjoy the beautiful coastal views while hang-gliders fly overhead. Once you reach the Rock Springs parking lot make a right and descend down to Pantoll station. At the stop sign make a left and continue descending down to the Four Corners area. Continue straight through the intersection and after a quick incline the final descent begins down Shoreline Highway. After a few more miles of fun the base flattens out and the ride finishes at Studio Velo.
