Offering one of the most spectacular views of the famous Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco, this relatively short pedal is a must-do Bay Area ride. Recently paved and with some bike lanes on the principal climb, the Headlands Loop from Studio Velo provides a perfect recovery ride but with some standard Marin climbing. Starting at Studio Velo offers a nice 15 minute warm-up before you begin to climb out of Sausalito. Don’t miss a stop at Cibo cafe on Bridgeway (@ Pine St.) on the way back for some of the best espresso and pastries in the Bay Area.
The route for this ride is simple. Depart the Studio Velo parking lot and head south on Hwy. 1 to the bike path, just after passing under the Highway 101 bridge. Take the Sausalito bike path straight south until you reach the end at the traffic light on Bridgeway. Head south on Bridgeway through Sausalito. The street changes into Alexander Avenue as it climbs away from the shore. Continue under the freeway when you reach the Hwy. 101 exit turning right on Conzelman Rd. just before the southbound on-ramp for the Bridge to begin your climb to astounding views of San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge.
